Turkish intelligence eliminates ISIS head in Syria, Claims Erdogan
“The National Intelligence of Turkey had been tracking ISIS head Abu Hussein al-Qurashi for a long time,” Erdogan said.
The Turkish intelligence eliminated head of the ISIS terror group (outlawed in Russia) Abu Hussein al-Qurashi Saturday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on TV Sunday.
“The National Intelligence of Turkey had been tracking ISIS head Abu al-Hussein al-Qurashi for a long time. This person was eliminated yesterday in an operation, carried out by the Turkish intelligence in Syria,” Erdogan said.
He also vowed that Turkey will continue to combat terrorist groups “without making any distinctions.”
On November 30, the Pentagon announced the elimination of the previous ISIS head Abu al-Hasan al-Hashimi al-Qurashi in Syria. According to the Pentagon, he was eliminated in an operation, carried out by the Turkish-controlled Free Syrian Army.
According to Western and Iraqi intelligence agencies, Abu al-Hasan al-Hashimi al-Qurashi was a brother of ISIS ex-leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, eliminated in Syria in 2019.
