UN Chief Antonio Guterres Instead of Kashmir Should Worry About China and Taiwan & Russia and America
New Delhi will categorically reject any kind of interference by anyone in the affairs of Jammu & Kashmir, an integral part of Sovereign India. Conflict between India and Pakistan is over Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and Paki sponsoring of terrorism within Kashmir Valley. India’s stand has been clear on this issue since 1947. At the maximum the only India and Pakistan can discuss the issue bilaterally.
Therefore the United Nations: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres statement that he hopes the Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan gets resolved should stop at that only.
“Well, the position of the UN and the resolutions that were taken are the same, remain the same. We have, as you know, a peacekeeping operation there. We are, of course, committed,” Guterres said on Friday.
His statement regarding offering his good offices for resolving the issue will be taken as interference into the internal affairs of India. His talking about Kashmir and of a situation in which human rights are respected and in which people can live in peace and security, indicates a very biased and conflated thinking. Things became clear when it came to be known that Guterres was responding to a question by a Pakistani journalist on the Kashmir issue during a press conference.
Guterres has a habit of poking his nose where not required. In an August 2019 statement, he had recalled the 1972 Agreement on bilateral relations between India and Pakistan — the Shimla Agreement. The Shimla Agreement was signed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Pakistan President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in 1972 and is a bilateral agreement between the countries and rejects any third-party mediation on the Kashmir issue. The 1972 Shimla agreement provides that the resolution of differences between the parties should be resolved by peaceful means and by bilateral negotiations.
Pakistan tried its level best to create tensions on the issues and hoping to involve other countries after India abrogated provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution, revoking the special status to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcating the state into two Union Territories on August 5, 2019.
India has categorically told the international community that the scrapping of Article 370 was an internal matter and also curtly advised Pakistan to accept the reality. India has repeatedly told Pakistan that Jammu and Kashmir “was, is and shall forever” remain an integral part of the country. New Delhi has also told Islamabad that it desires normal neighbourly relations with it in an environment free of terror, hostility and violence.
So instead of worrying about India, Guterres is advised to focus on the unnecessary tension created over Ukraine between USA and Russia and the tensions between China and Republic of Taiwan. It will do the World a lot of good..
