UN, India want sustainable peace for Ukraine

Russian and US delegations held talks on February 18 that lasted about 4 1/2 hours
The UN and countries like India want to see just and sustainable peace established in Ukraine in line with international law, UN secretary-general’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric said.
“What we continually want to see is an end to this conflict, a just peace, a sustainable peace, in line with all of the resolutions and international law,” he said to a question about the outlook for a Ukrainian settlement.
Russian and US delegations held talks on February 18 that lasted about 4 1/2 hours. Russia was represented by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov and Russian Direct Investment Fund CEO Kirill Dmitriev.
The US team included US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, national security adviser Mike Waltz and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
According to Ushakov, the delegations had a serious conversation on all the issues they wanted to cover, including bringing the views of Russia and the US closer together and Ukraine talks.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov described the talks with Washington officials as very useful and said that Russia and the US agreed to work toward a swift appointment of ambassadors to both countries.
Rubio said following the talks that Russia and the US had agreed to restore the previous number of diplomatic staff at the embassies in Moscow and Washington.
The countries had begun to cut down their embassy staff after 2014, when Washington embarked on a policy of deterring Russia.
