US Needs To Be Warned In No Uncertain Terms By Sri Lanka And India Over Playing “ Justice “ Pranks
USA will just not learn any lessons without getting a slap on its face. It had tried justice prank with India by arresting and then trying to prosecute an Indian Diplomat. In the bargain it received such a kick on their backside that forgot everything about JUSTICE AND LIBERTY.
Now once again they are trying the same thing with Sri Lanka. A U.S. District Court Judge has unsealed a civil lawsuit filed against former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa over his involvement in the murder of journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge, according to the BBC World Service.
On April 4th, the Centre for Justice and Accountability (CJA) had lodged the lawsuit on behalf of the daughter of Lasantha Wickrematunge. The CJA had criticized the administration of Rajapaksas and the murder of journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge and alleged Gotabaya Rajapaksa for systematic torture.
The former Defence Secretary as an individual and the Sri Lankan Government as a country must out rightly reject filing answers for the allegations and also refuse file a motion for the withdrawal of the lawsuit. The CJA has demanded that answers must be filed within three weeks.If Gotabaya Rajapaksa decides not to file answers, the hearing of the case would proceed without his presence.
However, speaking in regard upon arriving in the country following his personal visit in the US, Gotabaya said filing of this lawsuit was unnecessary.
What Gotabaya should do is to file a case against both CJA and the US District Court Judge entertaining the case in a Sri Lankan District level court. Summons can then be issued accordingly.
Also Sri Lanka Govt must issue a demarche to US Ambassador and ask US to stop such nonsense forthwith. India too must issue a warning to USA and ask them to desist from this type of interference in SAARC. At one time some idiots had contemplated such nonsensical action even against the then Chief Minister of Gujarat but better sense prevailed.India is not Panama or Grenada.
