US poses greatest threat to cybersecurity of BRICS nations
According to Shen Yi, the US considers the possibility of disrupting elections through information technologies as a serious threat to its national security
The biggest threat to the cybersecurity of BRICS countries emanates from the US, as Washington wants to win the cyberwar at all costs, a senior Chinese expert said.
“Now the biggest threat to BRICS countries like China and Russia comes from the US, and the biggest challenges are related to the so-called hegemony. Although the US says it is necessary to ensure the free flow of data in cyberspace, it is very worried about its own cyber sovereignty,” said Shen Yi, Director of the Centre for BRICS Studies at Fudan University. “I think the biggest threat to cyber security now is the hegemonic behaviour of the US and the hegemonic strategy it is pursuing. This also paves the way for the actions of all Washington’s allies in cyberspace,” he pointed out.
According to the expert, the US considers the possibility of disrupting elections through information technologies as a serious threat to its national security. Guided by these concerns, Washington is trying to ensure its dominance in the information sphere.
Shen Yi emphasized that the US does not respect the rights of other states in this sphere because it wants to “ensure its sovereignty at the expense of the sovereignty of other countries.” “In other words, the US is interfering in the domestic affairs of other countries through cyberspace, through the Internet,” the expert concluded.
