US taxpayers cannot afford helping Ukraine — Congressman
Matt Rosendale added that his country’s “increasing involvement” in the Ukrainian conflict presents a threat to national security
Aid to Ukraine is becoming an unbearable burden for US taxpayers, US Congressman Matt Rosendale said in a Twitter post.
“American taxpayers don’t have $70 billion for Ukraine,” the Republican congressman for the state of Montana wrote, adding that his country’s “increasing involvement” in the Ukrainian conflict presents “a threat to our national security.”
“[It] sets us on the collision course with another nuclear power,” he continued.
“It is time to turn our attention and spending to more pressing issues at home like the crisis at our Southern border, an explosion of fentanyl use, and rampant crime,” the US lawmaker added.
During a phone conversation on Tuesday, US President Joe Biden informed his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky about another package of US military aid to Ukraine, worth $625 million. Later, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the latest aid delivery would bring the overall cost of US military aid to Ukraine to more than $17.5 billion.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that, in response to a request from the Donbass republics, he made a decision to carry out a special military operation in Ukraine. He underscored that Moscow does not plan to occupy Ukrainian territories, instead planning to demilitarize and denazify the country.
In response, the West started introducing sweeping sanctions against Russia and shipping weapons and military vehicles to Kiev already worth tens of billions of dollars at this point.
