USA eyeing nuclear business finally removes BARC and others from its ineffective entity list

The United States has finally realized the ineffectiveness of its sanctions on Indian nuclear establishments.

These establishments have been growing up steadily and Russians have been doing brisk business with them.

So now with their pride in tatters, USA has officially removed three Indian organizations—Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Indira Gandhi Atomic Research Centre (IGCAR), and Indian Rare Earths (IRE)—from its Entity List.

This decision, announced by the U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), will now help American nuclear entities to carry out business with their Indian counterparts and also have cooperation particularly in areas of advanced energy and nuclear research.

The removal is part of a broader appeasement of India and to improve its relationship especially for establishing clean energy supply chains and advancing scientific collaboration.

The U.S. administration views this as a significant step towards fulfilling long-standing desire to have commercial civil nuclear cooperation.

The agreement had been agreed nearly two decades ago but was in limbo due to attitude of self assumed superiority by the Americans.

According to U.S. officials, this action aligns with U.S. foreign policy goals to have India on their side. Thus their reducing barriers to joint research and development efforts in energy security.

While they are trying to collaborate with India, simultaneously they are sending a message by adding 11 Chinese entities to the Entity List for activities contrary to U.S. national security interests.

Well while India may be ready to do commercial nuclear business with USA, it will no way persuade India to join ant anti China activities.

The sanctions on Indian organizations were originally imposed by USA during the Cold War era. In spite of those grand “ sanctions “ India is now a nuclear power both militarily and as a nuclear energy producer.

Though cooperation based on equality will facilitate more robust partnerships between the two in nuclear technology and rare earth materials.

This decision reflects an evolving geopolitical landscape where the U.S. has realized that India is now a very important power in this multipolar world.

Cooperation with India will help USA’s shared objectives in energy and technology sectors.
