FIR registered against former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav, SP workers for allegedly assaulting a journalist.
An FIR has been registered against former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party workers for allegedly assaulting a journalist in Moradabad.
The FIR has been registered under Sections 147 (rioting), 342 (wrongful confinement), and 323 (causing hurt) of IPC.
Samajwadi Party has named two journalists in its FIR.
The journalist suffered injuries after he was pushed by security personnel
Uttar Pradesh ADG (Law and order) Prashant Kumar told Indian Express that the FIRs were lodged based on complaints filed by both parties.
He further said that action will be taken based on the merits of the cases.

The former UP CM was rattled by questions posed by the journalists and told them “why don’t you ask this to the Bharatiya Janata Party?”

After the incident, Shalabh Mani Tripathi, the media advisor to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, alleged that SP goons had brutally assaulted journalists for asking the questions, were threatened, humiliated and chased away.
Tripathi claimed that many were injured.
Union Minister Prakash Javadekar had also condemned the incident saying freedom of expression is at the core of India’s democratic traditions.
“In Moradabad, in presence of Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, his party workers thrashed the journalist mercilessly, the reason was that he asked questions that Akhilesh did not like. Condemnable. Freedom of expression is the core of India’s democratic traditions and denying it is unacceptable,” said Javadekar in a tweet.
