‘We can overcome’: Chinese envoy lauds Jack Ma, Alibaba Foundations’ donation of Covid-19 test kits to India
“The third batch of donation of test kits from@JackMa and Alibaba Foundations has reached Delhi tonight and been provided to IRCS. With solidarity between the Chinese people and Indian people, we can overcome the challenge of COVID19 epidemic,” tweeted Chinese Ambassador to India on Friday.
Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation on Sunday announced the donation of essential medical supplies such as face masks and testing kits to India and six other nations in their fight to help contain the deadly contagion.
“Collectively, these seven countries will receive a total of 1.7 million face masks, 1,65,000 test kits as well as protective clothing and medical equipment such as ventilators and forehead thermometers,” the two foundations said in a statement earlier.
Besides India, other beneficiaries of the donation by Chinese billionaire include Azerbaijan, Bhutan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. The two foundations have so far donated 7.4 million masks, 485,000 testing kits and 100,00 sets of protective clothing to more than 23 countries.
The development comes as India witnessed a sharp spike in novel coronavirus cases since in the last week. As of Saturday morning, total cases of the novel coronavirus disease in India stand at 2,902 out of which 184 have been cured and discharged and 68 died.
