Whimpering of An Exposed Journalist
By Colonel Awadhesh Kumar
An ‘Honourable’ man masquerading as a super journalist and super analyst for last so many years, living off the land by kowtowing with the prevailing political dispensation, will certainly become venomous when suddenly deprived of all the freebees and status.
So when Shekhar Gupta talks anti Modi and anti Shah, it is no surprise.
This individual had once in not so distant past even directly accused the Indian Army and its Chief of attempting a military coup.
In any other country he would have been thrown into jail or even shot by a firing squad after a quick trial.
However thanks to the Government of the time, he is roaming scot free, spewing venom at the present BJP Govt in general and Modi and Shah in particular.
He laments that” in 60 years, after winning two-and-a-half wars, dividing Pakistan into two and becoming a $2.7 trillion economy, you would have thought we were much too secure, prospering and optimistic to bring back paranoias of the past”. He forgets to mention those responsible for the present state of affairs, which includes many an Honourable men.
He seems to be very unhappy after traversing large parts of India, in the Hindi heartland and the South, and seeing that just in five years BJP under Narendra Modi and Amit Shah has been able to achieve a turn around.
The Indians, earlier feeling insecure, internally and externally, are now feeling proud of their country, their heritage and their culture.
The tens of millions of young Indians now genuinely feel and believe that India came out of the dark ages in 2014. They now know that a strong and fearless leader is at the helms.
Shekhar Gupta is angry because under Modi, India called the Pakistani bluff and balakoted them nice and proper. He is angry because now both the Indian identity and Hindu identity has woken up as the core of Indian nationalism.
His heart now bleeds for the Fifth Column, the liberal bleeding hearts, journalists who live off the land, compulsive contrarians and urban Naxals.
He is unhappy that the opposition — with Nyay, Rafale, secularism, equality — has become in effective.
With opposition not winning, he thinks that the nation will not survive. He also laments that even when there are such grave dangers lurking, the Nation is not ready to give chance to his beloved “Pappu”, whom now you see and now you don’t?
Shekhar Coupta is angry that the Congress is the biggest loser. Unlike the many regional parties, it doesn’t have the hedge of alternate identities.
Its Rahul-era idea of fighting hard, even militant nationalism with liberal pacifism is unconvincing, especially given its own record of running a brutally unforgiving hard state.
The counter to the BJP’s campaign against “enemies and traitors” given by Congress is abolishing the sedition law, this he knows is falling flat.
He is angry because Modi has neutralized some of the economic distress and disaffection. He has shown the way and so young, jobless and quite hopeless people are now convinced that yes, in next five years there will be total change for the better.
Presently they may have no job and are hurting, but they can suffer a bit for the nation. Being so H onourable Mr Gupta finds the above conviction ridiculous and abhorrent. But it won’t change the reality, Mr Gupta.
