The CVC report states that RAW intercepted four calls made by Satish Babu, an MP belonging to a regional party from South, during which he can be heard seeking to get off the hook in the CBI case by coughing up Rs 2-3 crore. In one of the calls, the person on the other side assures that “I have spoken to the number 1 in CBI”. Sources confirm that the caller further assures Sana that he will soon get relief, while asking him to prepare a “self-contained note”.
The CVC’s 300-page report to the Supreme Court, has intercepts of conversations between the parties where Dubai-based persons discuss having spoken to “No 1” to get Sana relief in the Qureshi case.
The Central Vigilance Commission will now write to the government recommending a departmental inquiry and a criminal investigation against Alok Verma by the CBI itself. “This is a logical corollary of our preliminary probe and the recommendation we made for further probe with regard to some of the charges facing Verma,” said a senior source in the vigilance body.
Sources also said the CVC’s recommendation that former CBI chief Alok Verma be probed in meat exporter Moin Qureshi’s case is backed by four RAW telephone intercepts of controversial Hyderabad businessman Satish Babu Sana.
CVC has also cited allegations of corruption which need to be investigated and has further cited interference in CBI cases. Similarly, with regard to its stand on the allegation against Verma that he tried to induct tainted officers in the agency, the vigilance body in its report mentioned statements from several DSPs, SPs, DIGs and joint directors as well as file notings of the agency’s special unit (SU). These are annexed with CVC’s findings.
